Last time we chatted my fellow friends I was headed to the little town of Fort McMurray Alberta. In my mind I thought that Fort McMurray was a little town that designed for men and work. It's a really huge oil town which provides a lot of work for men which is why my theory wasn't surprising to people. However God has this funny thing about perceptions... And basically my mind was blown at the site of Fort Mac. But lets start off with the beginning's of the trip.
The first day we stayed in Clearwater BC. Wonderful small town with a huge starry night sky. We stayed at a camp and had rooms right next to the river. No literally the river was ten feet away from my door! I felt treated like a princess or something. The next morning we went to church there and had a wonderful time with all the Clearwater folk alike! Then we hit the road and drove through the Canadian Rockies and I just stared out the window wondering why people ever doubt there is a God because those mountains are just breathtaking. The end of the day we ended up in Edmonton Alberta which is the captial of Alberta. It's a city which I somehow found out... For some reason I thought it was a small small town... but no, apparently the largest mall in Canada has made its plank in Edmonton. Learning experience number one : there are big cities in the plains... oh yea Alberta is flat. For those who didn't know. Anyway, after Edmonton we headed to Fort Mac.
Fort Mac to me was not small, to be accurate it is about three times the size of Monroe. So yes there was alot of men and men in work trucks working out at what the locals call site but there were sooooo many kids. I saw more kids in Fort Mac then in Vancouver. So lets just say that God has taught me a thing or two about perceptions and judgment... The book of James was pretty clear on what I should have done. So that was learning curve number two. Anyway after doing our program and working with some of the local youth, another girl and I had a chance to do childrens ministry. That is God's big bang number three. I've always loved kids and thought that childhood innocense is something that needs to be kept pure in the world but I never thought that I would find so much joy in Children's Ministry. The Lord has given me a heart for children's ministry.. Yes this is true. So as far as a career choice, you can bet that I will be working with kids. Anyway we finished up our week and headed back down on the road.
The first night we stayed in Blackfalds, it's a small town with killer milkshakes run by a YWAM team!! So it was sweet but the next three days we stayed in Calgary and it was one of the most beautiful cities I've seen in my life! So wonderful!! It sorta reminded me of Portland Oregon... Just a little bit though. We worked with an organization called Neighbour Link, basically they give items of basic human needs to individuals who are in need of them. We sorted sheets and toys the two days we were there. On the second night we decided to go into downtown Calgary and see what this city of wonder was about. Well, God opened the flood gates. Not only that but he brought the sonic boom and flashy lights with him too. It was scary. We were soaked and huddled against a building laughing so hard because we were in aw of God's creation. The sound was amplified because of the buildings so it was really intense. However the aftermath clouds looked like they belonged on paintings by master artists!
So anyway after Calgary we made our way through Banff. Banff was hands down the most magestic part of the whole trip. The water was so blue and so cold. The mountains were tall and mighty. The wildlife was free. It was just a park that brought peace to my heart. It was almost like after this long trip, here have some joy from the nature that I've created! Anyway it was wonderful!
Today we traveled through the Valley and Winecountry making our way back to Vancouver. It was so sticky and hot that we pulled off the side of the road and I went into a lake. I would like to say jumped into the lake but that would be a lie because I was a complete wimp about the whole ordeal. But anyway it was refreshing. God also gave us another blessing when we stopped for lunch. A homeless man came up to us and asked if we had any change so they could buy some food. We said we didn't have any change but we had more then enough food and would enjoy some company over lunch. So we were able to feed a very hungry man. All I could say was thank you God for allowing us to help this man and welcome him with open arms! Definately this was the highlight of my day.
Now I'm back in Vancouver and actually I leave this wonderful city in about 12 hours bound back to my home town. I can't wait to see my family! All of them! I miss them very much and I can't wait to pray with them once again. I also can't wait to share all my journeys with my fellow friends and Church! Yes I can't wait! SEE YOU SOON AND LOVE YOU ALL!!! oh if you are ever feeling discouraged I've learned to lean on Isaiah 58!!!
